Equality Florida Fundraiser May 2009 - We raised $70,000!

It's probably no surprise that I'm a democrat. I do absolutely one hundred percent value the contributions made by the wealthy and do think they are entitled to enjoy the fruits of their achivements. However, I believe more so in a sliding scale system of equity and that the government should be the primary regulator of how wealth is distrubuted. The rich use more resources in society and should pay higher taxes, the poor should not be made to pay the same rate as the affluent, they should be made to pay what is affordable to them and fair.

I'm irked by people that advocate a "flat tax" as though that's the fair and equitable to everyone. If I'm a millionaire, let's face it I'm going to have more stuff, bigger homes, I'm certainly going to be using more resources out of the "community pool" that is provided by the government and should be charged more for such use.

Yes, I'm in favor of bigger goverment to help mind the store so to speak. De-regulation has obviously been a big cause of some of the financial chaos in recent times. However, Surprisingly, I'm actually more of a moderate rather than a liberal. I'm pro choice on abortion (Although in recent years I favor banning abortions after 3 months--after that it's just sloth on the part of the pregnant mother--No reason can't make that decision prior to that if it's going to be made.) I'm obviously in favor of gay marriage. However, on labor issues I have a tendancy to favor more with the Republicans. I think having had many bad exerpiences with un-employment insurance claims, workmans comp issues and overtime issues, I tend to want to curb the legal abuses being made by disgruntled workers and their profit seeking lawyers. I do however, think health care costs are out of control and that the government should intervene to save the day.

On social security I think considering people live an additional 15-20 years since the program first started that the retirement age should be immediately raised. --Side Bar-- That would solve the crisis and take the burden off of younger workers trying to make a living. As it is with the way home prices have risen so dramatically every where in the past 12 years (they're still high even with some of the price slides in 2007 & 2008) a family of 4 under the age of 30 now, will no longer be able to purchase their own home espcially if the interest rates go back up to 10-12% and credit continues to remain frozen.

I do believe in the death penalty and think that evil people should be punished and killed the same way we hunt down and kill terrorists. I do believe that our prison system has been turned into more of hotel system and that instead of giving out some mail jail terms our nations judges need to start consider alternative punishments like indentured servitude on a farm or some blue collar job that no one else wants. Instead of depending on illegal aliens we could force law breakers to work on a farm for 5 years at $1 per hour and room and board subsidized by the government of course. Considering it costs $50,000 per year per prisoner to board in jails, the country would be better served by turning a negative into a positive. The whole justice system needs a major revision in our country.

I have many more opinions and am most happy to engage in a friendly discussion with anyone when it comes to politics. It's one of my little passions. I especially love election years and the whole competitive nature it stirs up in all of us.
